FREEDOM UNDER GOD

Dripping like blood onto my hands
The rain falls maliciously onto this earth
The clouds become one, giant mass
And thunder cackles leaving a ringing in my ears

But even in this dreadful weather
I have enough will to withstand my pain
You can’t escape, yet you are gone
You see all, yet you are blind
You fear no one, yet you trembled for me

Laying among the sacred lilies
They would smell vibrantly if I cared
I dream of you still controlling me
How did you get me to obey?

You seared through me like the black plague
Tearing tissue and vital nerves
You stepped and splashed within my veins
At the very essence of my body

Can you control someone without their allowance?
Did somehow I portray I wanted that?

Looking upon this beaten planet
I realize no nation is free
“And freedom under God…”
They say we’re only free under God
Was that what you were to me?
And if so, did you make it the truth?

Under you I was a slave
I obeyed your every command
I was a lost puppy, just wanted to be needed

At a time, at the beginning
I had a sense of love for you
What is love, you ask?
I couldn’t tell you, you never gave me a chance

Today I don’t ask anything
Nothing from you at all
As the rain soaks through my clothes
The wind finally starts to make me numb
I shiver once and begin to head home
All the while cold
Just like you
