LIFELESS

Waking in dire pain
There are people all around me
Rain pattering on my face and the cold asphalt underneath
Flashing lights erupt and shatter the darkness

I remember the scream of the tires on the wet road
And I can still hear the searing of metal against metal

I turn my head to see another
The passenger
Right away the realization sinks in

I struggle to find the strength to reach him
My tears mix with the rain on my face
I bear down as I thrust myself towards him

I find a way to lift up my hand
And I touch his face
His eyes open softly and I see the blood in his eyes

I tell him I love him
And I kiss his lips gently
Don’t leave me, be strong, and hold on
But it’s too late

He couldn’t find the strength to say goodbye
His eyes break our gaze and his hand goes limp in mine
