OUR GEOMETRY

I crawl into the crumpled sheets
Folded in against dark winter distress
And I see your form, curving into me

All my thoughts are geometry
Angularity, lines and curves
The breakdown of the body
The study of detail

I am engrossed by the polygons
Of your back, the rise and fall
Of your muscular breast
Shoulders as angles, perfect
Mathematical proofs of beauty

I am gripped by the crescents
Of your closed eyes, dusted with pendulous
Lash and lid, as though in sleep
You are in your dreamland

And, oblique and unformed
Perched on one elbow
Beyond the flickering rush of light
I am with you

Across miles of precise distance
Geometrically proven
