THE SILENCE AROUND YOU

Enigmatic cries bellow out under the moon
The night air as dry as fire
Beady eyes pear out from a great beyond
Yet the night is filled with solitude

Looking up, the moon sings a deadly melody
Birds call from places you will never go
While the crickets chirp the silence away

Each star that gleams above your head
Tells a far away tale
You know of nothing
What innocence you could bestow
If only it could be received
Like pain can be received

What would you say to me if you got the chance?
Is that the question?
Would it be something that would caress my face
And leave me with ease within myself?
Or would it be a slap in my face
And leave me weak in the knees?

As the silence around you is filled with agony
You hear the sounds of my goodbye
A surreal state; you believe anyway
And before it’s too late you scream my name
In shock, I quiet myself

He remembered my name?

You rest against the darkness
Listening closely for the noises to begin again
And when they don’t you almost smile
But are too worried that the silence is deadly

With only the moon to allow your mortal eyes to see
You see a lot of blood
Panicking; you reach the scent of flesh
Although enticing, you know something is wrong
And then you wake up

Was it a nightmare, darling?
Are you okay now?
You sit up, realizing you’ve been in bed all along
You stand, shuffle to the light switch
But change your mind

What are you afraid of, darling?
You breathe deeply in your fear
I smell the fright within you, darling

Is it me?
Do I scare you?
I’m here to scare you
I’m the realism in your every nightmare

Even though no one else knows
I know what you did to my body
And because you murdered me
I am still here
